Suggestion for Email as Username

I like this new feature and have another idea.
What if instead of "Use Email as Username", we still allow the new user to create a username and we change the option to "Allow sign-in with email".
This way, the user can either use their username or email address to sign in – this is good because people tend to forget usernames; this will also let us keep a username on file in case we want to have a forum (or something) that uses usernames for names.
Thanks,
Elliot

With this feature, user can still login using email or username. If you want to allow users to enter both username and email for the registration and want to allow users to login using either email or username, I think there are third party plugin which supports this feature already

Users don't need to use their username with this plugin to login. If they forget their password however, they still do need to use their username to enter the verification code in the forgot password process. So it doesn't allow you to use email as username everywhere you need to.
Do you know if it is correct in saying that you still need your username if you forget your password?
