I'm looking for something to allow subscribers of a subscription within osmembership pro to download pdfs that are linked through an article, however, if the user does not have a subscription they are not able to download the pdf. The pdfs are located in a subfolder within the images folder and if I were to type in the url of the known pdf, I would be able to access it with no problems regardless if I have a subscription. However, we only want these items to be made available if the user has a subscription to a certain plan. Does eDocMan support this? I have read through some responses and it sounds like it will, as the membership pro does not sound like it can do it on it's own. Thank you for your help. I have enjoyed your membership pro extension for years.

Hi Charles,
Thank you for your interest in EDocman.
Regarding your question, yes, EDocman can support this requirement. It allows you to restrict access to documents and categories based on Joomla access levels or Joomla user groups.
With Membership Pro, subscription plans can assign subscribed users to specific Joomla user groups. You can use this feature together with EDocman to control which users are allowed to access or download certain PDF documents.
Next, please note that because the Joomla images folder is publicly accessible, any PDF files stored there can still be accessed directly if someone knows the file URL. For that reason, it is not possible to fully block direct access to PDF files while they remain inside the images folder.
To prevent direct access, you would need to move the PDF files to a separate protected folder. In that case, EDocman can manage the download process and prevent users from accessing the files directly from outside.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Best regards,
Dam

Dam,
Thank you for your response. I just want to make sure I'm understanding what you are saying. If we move our documents outside of the images folder and to another location that is not available to the public through the front end, edocman, can still provide these documents to be viewed based on the user being part of a group that is assigned when they purchase a subscription. Is this correct? Thank you again for your help.

Hi Charles,
EDocman stores documents in a dedicated folder, and you can decide where that folder is located. EDocman will then protect the documents in that folder and prevent direct access to the files.
When a user has permission to view or download a document, EDocman uses its own method to retrieve the file from the document folder and serve it to the user. This approach helps ensure both security and smooth system operation.
Thanks
Dam
