Hi Tuan,

Thanks for this information.

1. Regarding the automatic approval, I think we had the activation email set to "on" because without requiring activation, we had seen some fake users signing up without paying - causing us to have to delete the fake user info from our database. So, I think we did see some people signing up without paying - the unpaid accounts appeared to be spam. I will discuss the automatic approval with my developer.

Question: If I set it to automatic approval, what happens when we get a failed transaction on the PayPal side (as we did recently)?

2. I will let our developer know about the IPN logging. :-)

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello

1. If you still want to ask users to approve their account, that's fine. The key point here is that you need to set Only Create User Account When Membership Active/Approved so that user account will only be created when subscription become active (for example, when users complete payment)

With that setup, if users failed to make payment, no user account will be created and he can use the same email to subscribe for the plan again

Rgards,

Tuan

Hi Tuan,

I checked our site and found that we had already set "Only Create User Account When Membership Active/Approved" to "Yes" before we had the recent issue of the failed PayPal account. When the subscription was submitted, Membership Pro created a partial record that said "Pending" and has a "0" zero for the userID. Then PayPal failed to collect a payment. The record is still Pending. Neither Membership Pro nor PayPal informed us that this happened.

What is the Pending state used for, and can we set up specific actions for this type of user record such as emailing a notice, and collecting the form data and pre-filling the form for them?

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello

Pending mean users have not completed payment for the subscription yet. If users close the browser without making payment when they are being redirected to PayPal, there is no way for us to know about it, thus we could not send notification to admin for this pending subscription

Hi Tuan,

Thanks for this explanation. This clears up my understanding of the Pending state.

In our case, the Pending state prevents the user from trying again because their email address is already recorded as their login username.

1. Is there a feature in Membership Pro that utilizes the Pending state to perform a function? In other words, what is the purpose of labeling a user record Pending?

2. Is there a process where the user record is labeled Pending temporarily, and then it becomes approved or denied?

3. Can the creation of the Pending user be used as a trigger to send a message to the Admin or send an email to the user via the address they entered?

Your help is appreciated.

That's not right. Maybe you haven't tried what I suggested yet. If you set Only Create User Account When Membership Active/Approved to Yes, user account won't be created if users don't make payment, so there is nothing prevent them from using the email to subscribe again.

It does seem strange.

Earlier today I double-checked to make sure that the setting was "Yes" as you described, and confirmed with my developer that it had already been set to "Yes" previously, when the Pending record got created.

Could there be a bug in Joomla that is not working appropriately with Membership Pro?

Thanks for your help, Tuan. It is greatly appreciated. :-)

No, not right. Please try to subscribe again one more time without making payment. Users account won't be created. If it is created, please submit a support ticket so that I can check it directly on your site. But I don't think it could happen.
