moderate new members? was created by thepiston
Is there a way to hold new subscriptions from being active until an admin has approved the user?

Hi

No, we don't have a way to allow it at the moment. As soon as subscribers make payment, they will become active automatically. I don't know why you need admin approves ? Maybe your plans are free plans ?

In the next release, I will consider adding a config option to require approve membership (for free plans only, I think). For now, it is not possible

As the new year is coming here on Monday next week, the development will only be continued from the week after that. For now, I will only spend my time to work on support, it keeps me busy enough for the holiday

Regards,

Tuan

I would be interested in this feature. Moderation option for free plans.

Jonathan

I think have the same requirement: we have a free plan for students, but we want to hold their membership at Pending until the student's institution email address is checked. Currently, because it's free, it is immediately activated. I can't see any way to do what we need.

However, I wonder if a workaround is to assign subscribers to this plan to a different joomla group? I'm not sure of the details, but maybe the Guest group could be used for this? Alternatively, simply assign them to the Public Group. Then, when they are approved, their Group can be changed to Registered (or whatever). There may be some issues with the approved emails, but remember that there can be different emails for that specific plan. It's a bit more work for the membership secretary, but it might work.

Some experimenting required... but if anyone can say whether or not this would work, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont use plans for free use of the site.

I just use standard Joomla registration process.

This is mainly to resolve the issue with not wanting free members to record all the additional data (address, etc).

As such I could use the normal moderation available in standard Joomla. I dont but could.

I would prefer to use plans for free members but only if the fields related to a plan could vary from plan to plan. I think this may have to be a common list of fields for all plans but with the option to hide them by plan.

I also would like the ability hide fields in the same way for group members where the field is relevent to the paid subscriber but arent for the group member, e.g. VAT Number.

Sounds like our requirements are slightly different. But can't you select which plans specific fields are shown on? You can set the plan or plans each field appears on in the 'Plans' list box at the top of each Edit Field.

Yes but what happens is that the:

- Subscriber and subscription view in backend then only shows the common fields
- Same in the Front End

This is a major weakness of that approach. I spent a lot of time trying to get that approach to work satisfactorily.

As a result all plans need the same fields.

Not sure I follow...

I have a custom field (for Institution) that only appears in the Student plan - this field shows on the subscription form in the front end and under the Edit Subscription for a subscriber in the back end, but it doesn't show for any subscriber who has subscribed to a different plan.

Or have I misunderstood something?
