US States vs UK Counties was created by PhoenixUK
Hi There,

I've disabled all but the United Kingdom, as that is the only territory that we will be launching in, for now anyway. This has left 4 'States' as your MembershipPro calls them, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland when really they're countries within the UK.

Separate to this, I need to add a list of each of the actual counties as we call them within the 4 of these countries within the UK... how can I achieve this list, that can then be picked up during registration process in a dropdown box please, this is imperative as in this day and age, the user should not have to type something like their county in and instead just select their desired one from a dropdown box list.

I look forward to your thoughts and hopefully a solution.

Hi Robert

Not sure I understand your requirement. However, you can access to Membership Pro -> Setup -> States to add new states to meet your need.

Please give it a try and update us with the result

Tuan

Hi Tuan,

I now know that I can update the States by adding new one's, well in the UK they're called 'Counties' so I created a language override so they're named Counties but your extension only comes with North American states included.

Therefore, I would like to ask if there's any possibility that I can insert the full UK counties list in a text file format, probably comma delimited directly in to the database; as to insert new counties manually will take me forever, as there's over 100?

Maybe you could help kindly advise me what table / record in the database this would need an sql query to be run, not that I know what query would work at this point. I have full access to the database via phpmyadmin but only enter there if and when I need to do some basic maintenance or run a query etc.

Also, in the screenshot see the red highlighted two fields;

State Code 3
State Code 2

However, I have tried finding this out online but there doesn't seem to be any 'Official' state (county) codes used in the UK... are these two state codes actually required for your extension / component to work?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

I could even purchase a ready made database listing of the Town, City, County & Postcode list from here: www.sqldumpster.com/databases/geographic...ities-postcodes.html but I need to know if it's possible to run an sql query into your components database?

I have added UK Counties to my setup.

I created a csv file and uploaded using phpmyadmin.

Straight forward enough other than the table needs 2 and 3 digit codes which dont exist so I made them up as they dont show in the front end.

Alan

Morning Alan,

That's great to know that it can be successful, you wouldn't happen to know what the sql query was at all would you? I can make the csv file with the counties in but I can't wrap my head fully around the required other bits of the sql query, to get it to upload my counties correctly.

Also nice to hear about the Code 2 and 3 which don't exist in real terms in the UK but I need to keep them for overseas expansion when things get that far. Did you make up a separate one for each record or did you use the same one? I'm thinking just Uk for Code 2 and UKB for Code 3 but for ALL of the records, using the same one Code 2 or Code 3?

Hi Tuan,

As Alan has mentioned in his reply from a few months ago, I have tried adding manually and my 'County' list (UK version) doesn't show how to fix this.

I have my 'County' list populated in Easy Profile, as that accepted my singular one-by-one addition to my main profiles but when it comes to my MembershipPro Subscription Plan submission forms, the 'State' drop down field that I have renamed in Language Overrides to 'County' just stay blank, even though I've added a single test country listing?

Hi
For a little over a year ago I wrote a post about this, importing feature of states/counties/cities, similar that they have in OS Property.
Then he told me that there wasn't so many customer requesting this feature.
Perhaps Tuan will consider adding this in the Membership Pro now.
This is a highly wanted feature as there are a lot of states/province/counties/citys etc to add manually.

In OSP the only requirment is a simple .txt file that you import, after that everything is ok.

Cheers
Stephen

If the problem can be solved why worry? If the problem can not be solved, worrying will do you no good.

I may be wrong because I haven't tried (I just let my Members type their address as we don't use it much anyway and Post Office say County no longer needed). However, if all you want is a drop down of counties - no need to use the state field create your own Custom Field called Counties, with a type of drop down list. Copy the list of counties - e.g. from the first column of this table: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_counties_of...ited_Kingdom#England (Don't forget the other home countries) and paste it into the text box on the Custom Field form as a list of options. Job done?
