Basically saying websites can be manipulated by unscrupulous people who can make your map usage go up and landing you with a massive bill from Google - terrifying!

We definitely need an alternative map solution if the above is the case.

Not reading the details from there but I think Google map API should be api prevent that issue

Basically, with the key you provided, I believe Google Map API will only allow it to be used on the domain which the key is registered for, so they usage will only be counted for map load from within your site

You are worry that someone access to map on your site to increase the counter so that you have to pay if the map loads exceed the limit allowed by Google (for free)?

Yes I am worried about exactly that

i tried removing the api key but it still shows the developer message etc.

Google should at least allow us to use up to the daily allowance without the taking our credit card details - I don't like the fact that they can bill us without asking and that we cannot set a limit ourselves so the map stops working when we reach thre 25k views. Plus, how would we know if their stats/views are correct.

I have used OpenStreetMaps in another application it is just as good as google so hope it can be introduced.

I can confirm: Removal of the Api key makes the map work again.

I can NOT confirm: Removal of the Api key throws an error as before. "For development purposes only".

Honestly, I have no clue. It works for me on our demo site and for other customers as confirmed above. If you want to disable map:

1. Go to Extensions -> Plugins, check and make sure the plugin Events Booking - Map plugin is disabled

2. There is small code modification needed, too, see www.joomdonation.com/forum/events-bookin....html?start=0#115498
