Is there a possible path to update EShop from V 3.3.0 to a current version was created by Georg Lange
Hello!
So I got this customer who never updated his version of EShop because it is working beautifully, as he puts it. They started and stopped at version 3.3.0 and only put lots of products and data in all the time.
But now, as Joomla version 3 is very outdated, he wished for an update / a migration to Joomla version 4. I guess, the quite dated version of EShop will not be compatible with a current version 4.4.13 of Joomla. Plus there is an update to a newer version of PHP necessary.
I do not seem to be able to get a grip on older versions of EShop, which I would need and use to update on a step-by-step way to the current version.
Is there any way to do this, going version after version to arrive at the current one?
Or is there any other possibility, to update to a current version without loosing the data and assets of about two hundred products and several changes in the layout of EShop?
I would even re-buy a current version of EShop again - but I frear for the loss of data and work put in the shop that is currently still up and running.
Cheers, Georg

Well,
that is not much of a reaction I got here.
Is it to much, I am asking for?
Yes, my client did a bad job in the first place by not updating his shop. Still, I think I should be able to help him.
I do not want to put any work on anybody's desk. I am only asking for somebody to hint me to a place, where I can download legacy-versions of EShop to do a step-by-step update until I arrive at some current version that runs with Joomla 4. I did this before with other types of software and frameworks, such as Joomla itself or even Laravel. So I think that should be possible.
Cheers,
Georg

Hello Georg,
I had the same issue (Joomla 3.10.12), and ended up bij installing a new Joomla site (5.3.0) with the latest e-shop version (4.0.2). By installing new Joomla! you also get rid of old (outdated) settings.
Then I imported a backup of the old database (with only the Eshop entries) into the new site.
This works fine: I have 1152 products and 95 categories and I don't see any issues.
Please let me know if you need more information.
Regards, Peter

Hello Peter,
thank you very much for your advice.
So the current version of Eshop is compatible database-wise with a legacy-version like the 3.3.0 in my case?
How did you migrate the assets as images, audiofiles or as my customer has in his shop: epubs? Do the assets still sit in the same place, so urls like
/media/com_eshop/products/resized/Zieger_U1_72dpi_27112024_600-175x245.jpg will stay the same as before? If so, I could just FTP the stuff to its place.
I guess, then what you described might be a way to migrate this shop. I will give it a try using my local copy.
Cheers,
Georg

Dear Georg Lange,
I am sorry for missing your topic. Actually, there is no special things to update EShop from version 3.3.0 to version 4.x.x. You simply select the latest EShop 4.x.x package to install it as when you install fresh EShop. The documentation here docs.joomdonation.com/eshop/getting-star...lation#upgrade-eshop
It will not take any effect to the database. All of data and configuration settings will be still same.
If you want to update EShop for you, please submit a new ticket to EShop category to send me the super admin account to the site so I can help you to do that.
Sincerely, Giang

Hello Giang Dinh Truong,
thank you very much for your advice and for pointing me to the right place in the documentation.
And thanks for your offer, to install the update for me.
I guess, based on the information in the documentation, I will be able to do the update on my own. If anything unexpected happens, I will return here to ask for help.

Hello Georg,
That's no problem. Before each updating, you should also do the backup of your site or backup of EShop I think.
If you have any problem or need anymore helps, don't hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely, Giang
