do not have permission to upload document was created by Mike Chia
Hi, I have a strange issue I hope you can help me. I created a new user group in Joomla call "department editor" and I assigned a new user account to the department editor group. Now I went that that department's file category, and change the permission for "department editor" group and set "Allow" on all of the permissions. The calculated setting for the department's file category now shows "allowed" for the department editor group on all setting. Now I went back to the website and login as the the user that's in the department editor group and try to upload a file. It's giving me a message saying that you don't have permission to upload documents. Did I do anything wrong?

Hi Mike
Your settings seems to be correct and I don't know why it doesn't work. Maybe some permissions conflict. Could you please submit a support ticket sending me super admin account of your site so that I can check it for you.
Regards,
Tuan

- What did you change at the CATEGORY PERMISSIONS?
I am getting the error "do not have permission to upload document" when I open the Edocman menue item 'Upload document. Seems that only super users / admins hav the right to upload.
I set the upload category access to "registered" and so I did for the menu item access, but still getting the same error. Please help!

Hi Raf,
Thank you for your question.
In order for a user to be able to upload documents in Edocman, that user must belong to a Joomla User Group which has the "Create" permission in Edocman — either globally or for specific categories.
Setting the upload category and menu item access to "Registered" controls who can see the menu or category, but it does not automatically grant upload (create) permissions. You need to ensure that the user's group has the "Create" permission assigned in the Edocman Permissions settings.
For a better understanding of how permissions work in Joomla, we recommend learning more about Joomla ACL (Access Control Levels) and reviewing the Edocman ACL documentation here:

Let us know if you need help adjusting the permissions.
Kind regards,
Dam

That helps a lot, thanks!
But it does not say anything about Upload rights. Which permission allows for uploading rights, is that the CREATE permission?
No Joomla standard group has Upload rights as default, it seems., except admin / super user.
Regards
Ralf

Hi Ralf,
You're very welcome!
Regarding the upload rights — yes, you're correct that Joomla does not assign upload permissions (such as media uploads) to most standard user groups by default, except for Administrators and Super Users.
To clarify:
- Create permission allows users to create new content items (like articles, etc.), and this includes uploading files if the component or editor in use supports it.
- Edit Own gives users the ability to edit content they themselves have created.
Thanks
Dam
