eDocman permission inheritance was created by MPeter1975
Hi,
I'd like to know if eDocman's documents inherit view and action permissions from their categories. Example:
I create Cat1 category with Public access (anybody can view and download every documents) and Cat2 with Restricted access (only some ACL or group can see and download). If I create Doc1 document and put into Cat1 category will it inherit the Public access from the category's definition? If I move this Doc1 into Cat2 will it have the Restricted permissions?
I tried to use some other document management extension and the problem was that I had to set download right for each and every documents which is pain in the a$$. I want to define all default permissions on category level and have these permissions inherited by all the documents I put into this folder/category. I hope I could explain my question well.
Thanks for reply!
Peter

Hi Peter
EDocman works exactly as you want. So in this case, you just need to do :
- Create Category 1, set Download Permission to Public .
- Create Document 1, assign it to Category 1, set Download permission to inherit (default) . This document will inherit the permission from Category 1, and all users will be able to download it.
- Same for Category 2, just set Download permission to Registered and all documents assigned to this category can only be downloaded by Registered users.
Basically, the permission will be inherited by the following tree structure :
- Site Global Permission -> Component Permission -> Parent Category Permission -> Category permission-> Document Permission . If a child level set permission to Inherit, it will inherit all permission setting from parent level .
Hope my explanation is clear to you.
