Cant remove images was created by james Osborne

When I tick the "Remove image" option on any image in any property and press the "Save" or "Save & Close" buttons the images do not delete!! This is a big problem as I cannot go live with my new website until I delete many images.

I am using Joomla 3.4.1 and everything else seems to work fine. Can somebody please give me some information on how to delete images!
