Paypal Pro Recurring Donations was created by HSonne
I've found a lot of info about recurring payments but have been searching and searching for this particular answer to no avail though -

I have a PayPal Pro account setup, do I need to purchase the $30 Recurring Payment option through Paypal for the Joom Donation recurring payments to process?

Another question - what is the best way to handle a yearly Membership to a group? Can an email be send to the member a week prior to the expiry of the membership requesting their renewal?

One more - can forms be setup and not collect payment? Such as an application form?

THANKS!
Holly

Hi Holly

The different between Paypal Standard and Paypal Pro is that when you use Paypal Pro, your customers can enter credit card number directly on your site to process Payment . With Paypal Standard , customers will be redirected to Paypal for process Payment (not be able to enter credit card information directly on your site) .

If you use Paypal Standard, you will not have to pay monthly payment to Paypal. However, if you use Paypal Pro, Paypal charge you 30$/month (if I remember correctly) .

To get recurring payment, you don't have to get a Paypal Pro account. You can simply use a Paypal Standard Account . The only difference between Paypal and Paypal Pro is the way customers enter creditcard information to process payment as I explained above .

Another question - what is the best way to handle a yearly Membership to a group? Can an email be send to the member a week prior to the expiry of the membership requesting their renewal?

=> Right now, the simplest way is that you create a form which ask your users to pay for the memebership or maybe you can search for a membership extension. With my extension, there is no emails sent to customers to ask them about renewal .

One more - can forms be setup and not collect payment? Such as an application form?

=> The forms created by my extension always require Payment !

Hope my answers are clear to you !

Regards,

Tuan

Thank you so much for your prompt reply, greatly appreciated! Just a few more:

1) With Paypal Pro would I have to get an SSL certificate?

2) With the recurring payment, is an email sent to the donator before the transaction (in case they want to cancel it) and afterwards (as a receipt)?

3) Can you ask for Offline Payment only on a form?

4) Would I have to implement Jom Social or Community Builder for the donators to create an account? I already have quite a few registered users (donators) on the Joomla site. I'd really like the donators to be able to come back to the site, login, and their info such as billing details already be applied to the form. Does it integrate with the Joomla users?

THANK YOU!
