Custom user fields

I have added a custom field age-type to my Joomla profile.  I also have that field in my subscription and want to update the Joomla profile when a value is entered in the subscription but that didn't seem to happen.  My Joomla profile states - 'Website default' and stays at that even if I change the value in the MP administrator subscriptions .  I have tried this for a new subscriber and for an update.  

I do realize this synchronization of the field is one way only but that is fine for our purposes.
