Membership Pro:Automatic renew was created by simona
Hi, I want to know if the Membership Pro component provides the ability to activate the automatic renewal of subscriptions and if also provides an automatic email system to remember the expiration of active subscriptions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Simona
Yes. It is possible. You just need to setup a recurring subscription plan, then subscribers subscribe to that plan and renewal will happens automatically (without requiring any actions from you or subscribers)
However, please note that not all payment gateways support recurring payment. Only the following payment gateways support it:
1. PayPal
2. PayPal Pro
3. Authorize.net
4. Stripe
So if you can use one of the above payment gateways, it will work well
Regards,
Tuan

Hi Tuan - is it possible to set up automatic renewal for free memberships? We want to to renew automatically unless they choose to log-in and cancel.

Hi
No, it is not possible. For free subscription plans, I think you can set Lifetime Membership property to Yes so that the subscription will remain active for lifetime.

I'm currently working on a Plugin that might do this for you (it wasn't in my original use case but I think it may work!) I'm assuming you have a reason to want your free members not to just be lifetime free? (Can't think what that might be!)
Look out for a post in the next week or so about "Fall Back Plan Plugin" - basically it will let you select which [free] plan a member is dropped onto when their (normally) paid plan expires. I will try and make the code actually allow you to fall back onto the same plan.
The email bits are already there.

Thanks for the info about the plugin Calum. The reason these can't be set as lifetime is that, currently there is a grant to pay for family memberships (just $10/year). If that grant runs out, they will need to start charging again, so renewals would need to pay for their own membership. Also, having annual renewal even with free membership allows people to leave the organization if they want, reminds them to update their contact information, and gives a chance to ask for donations. There are other membership levels that do require payment.

Yeh but do you actually want automatic renewal or just free expires after 1 year and they have to click renew online to renew...

Tuan said it can do automatic recurring payments (although with only 4 payment gateways). And it can do email reminders . So what makes you say Bye like that. At least describe what you wanted...

Was that Bye as in "your component doesn't do what I need - so I'm looking elsewhere..." or something else?simona wrote: Hi Tuan, thanks for your reply.

Hi Calum - I was asked to set them up as automatic renewals, with a button to click and login to cancel if they don't want to renew. This is because most people do not log-in to the website ever (there's no member-only content), so they have difficulty when it comes time to renew.
Another option would be a personalized URL that allows them to one-click renew without logging in. I know that's fairly difficult to get working, though.
