So the normal thing to do would be to put the actions on a menu thats only visible to the Access Control Level the subscription plan creates. (You may need to read: membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/joomla-groups-integration )
But you can point to a menu item. On the plan look at the Advanced Section for "Login Redirect" - if the item you want isn't a menu item you can create a URL link as a menu item if that is the only way.

That has helped me a lot to understand!!
My knowledge is limited of Joomla could I ask you a couple more questions please
So the normal thing to do would be to put the actions on a menu that's only visible to the Access Control Level the subscription plan creates. (You may need to read: membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/joomla-groups-integration
So will the menu appear as a page ? I would subscription plan users to be able to submit articles do I create a module and give it author permissions and assign it to the menu item? is this info available membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/joomla
But you can point to a menu item. On the plan look at the Advanced Section for "Login Redirect" - if the item you want isn't a menu item you can create a URL link as a menu item if that is the only way.
So I navigate to the menu page then grab the URL from the browser and use that in "Login Redirect" will this automatically take a registered user to the menu page as soon as they login?
Thank You!!

Yes you are right about the login redirect. What seems odd to me is that when someone logs in they are presented with Adding Content as a Page? It would be better (IMHO) to present them with a content page that Says "Welcome... ...To add an article select the menu above etc" That gives you far more ability to do more in the future... What if next month you want to also be able to add an event and an article which would logging in direct to? The content article would tell them which to choose?

I have followed your instructions to the letter and managed to create the members page I need
I created a new user group called 'Subscribers' and is a child of registered users - I created a menu called 'Members' wich is a child of
Sign-up on the main menu bar at the top of the page. its a drop down menu called 'Members' and is only visible when a member is signed in.
The Category: is 'Members Page' if can call it that, using my crude terminology lol. And, on this page, I have an article submission form. ( Don't ask me how I got this far I just did, as my brain is scrambled trying to figure it all out) wich is quite large in parameters but that is something I can sort out one i get it all working.
I tested the form and it works fine and recorder the article I submitted in the 'Article Manager' Calum please help me with this last hurdle if you can!
I would like to publish the article on the same 'Members Page' as the form so the articles all appear at the top of the page and the form stays at the bottom of the page can this be done and how do I do it ?
I suppose once an article is submitted a email is sent to the Administrator for consideration before publishing the said article. Can you walk me through this please!!
I do realise that your time is very precious but I really could do with thhe help please!
Regards
George

I'm not 100% clear on what the article is aiming to do and so what you are describing is a wee bit odd!
What would be normal would be to use one of the blog layouts from the joomla menu manager to list multiple articles on the page within a category. That bit is easy enough - just play with the settings and refer to the standard joomla docs.
What I'm not clear on is:
(a) Are you trying to only list Member A's articles for Member A, or Member A, Member B and Member C?
(b) What happens when you have 200 articles? Lots of scrolling...
(c) Is this content only to be available to subscribers? If not you'll need a separate "Blog" view for them too.
The workflow in terms of publishing is up to you. You can give the user higher access to be able to publish. But do so with caution!
I also understand, but have never done it, you can configure the article submission defaults - a search on Joomla should find a tutorial...
You might want to look into modules and work out if there is either a way to put the submission form in a module or the blog in a module. They are really two independent features.
Are you using articles for the right thing? Are you trying to create a comments function where a seperate component for commenting would be better?

Thanks for you reply I really appreciate all your valuable help you have given me inspiration when all hope was gone!
mmmm?
I'm not 100% clear on what the article is aiming to do and so what you are describing is a wee bit odd!
I am trying to get members to register and post articles of hopes and aspirations of what they would like to achieve by way of loosing weight and their goals for a fitness level. they would be able to submit an article/post and include pictures sort of before and after of their body shape to see the progress they have made.
What would be normal would be to use one of the blog layouts from the Joomla menu manager to list multiple articles on the page within a category. That bit is easy enough - just play with the settings and refer to the standard Joomla docs.
Will this be a module I just insert onto the script/category ? will this blog layout have the facility to upload images? Can you walk me through the procedure, please if possible I would be very grateful
What I'm not clear on is:
(a) Are you trying to only list Member A's articles for Member A, or Member A, Member B and Member C?
All members that want to submit an article on their progress
(b) What happens when you have 200 articles? Lots of scrolling...
Good point that's why I am leaning to your idea of the blog
(c) Is this content only to be available to subscribers? If not you'll need a separate "Blog" view for them too.
Available to view by all but only members can submit articles hence the fee to join

I agree only the administrator will be able to publish
I also understand, but have never done it, you can configure the article submission defaults - a search on Joomla should find a tutorial...
Can you give me more information on this. please?

Will this where I need the most help on exactly what to do.. to be honest I don't have a clue here.. Will I be able to insert the blog into a module I just insert onto the script/category ? will this blog layout have the facility to upload images? Can you walk me through the procedure, please if possible I would be very grateful

I am not sure, but I feel as though the members should have something to show for there money and be able to submit articles on there progress to inspire others to join.
Thank you Calum!

Your are in territory I've never been in before but Zoo seems to feature from time to time as a component that lets you build applications (their words not mine) which seem to be like a content article but with a more structured content. So I'd imagine you could have some pre-set fields that might ask what their current weight / fitness level is , what they'd like to get to, target date and then a box for some free text. Take a look here: extensions.joomla.org/extension/zoo there are free bits and paid bits and I have no idea how good it is or isn't. I'd expect to be able to control access through the Joomla ACL as you could otherwise.George Cummings wrote: I am trying to get members to register and post articles of hopes and aspirations of what they would like to achieve by way of loosing weight and their goals for a fitness level. they would be able to submit an article/post and include pictures sort of before and after of their body shape to see the progress they have made.

This is a rather old article: manchumahara.com/2011/04/11/adding-custo...sion-form-in-joomla/ but I think shows you how you might do something using the core.
