Auto Reminder - Tied to Pay Status?

I didn't see this in the documentation, so I figured I'd ask here.

Does the auto-reminder get sent regardless of the payment status?

My business office isn't marking items paid until after some events occur. These events are using offline payment.

I'm hoping they do still go out.

The system only sends reminder emails to registrants who paid for the registration. So the registrants who were not marked as paid won't receive reminder email
