I would like to purchase EDocman but it looks like Documents Seller may be more of a fit.
My client wants customers to sign up for memberships (Paid with PayPal) to download files (pdfs included) from specific categories.
The theme for the front end of the site is completed so we do not want to change it if we do not have to.
Please advise.

I think in this case, if you want to sell Documents, you need to use Documents Seller, not EDocman. EDocman can only be used to manage and allow downloading documents, it doesn't allow selling documents
