eShop Module for Joomla Content?

We need to sell licensed content (not downloaded) which has a great amount of detailed licensing information associated with each product. Our design intends to use a Joomla article to describe everything to the customer, and we would like to be able to load a module into that content item to allow purchasing.

So...is it possible to write a Joomla Module that will show a list of certain products for the displayed article with a jQuery Button to add one or more items from the list to the cart ? We're hoping for a jQuery AJAX call that can update the cart with an item without leaving the page.
