How to display up-coming event after cut-off date?

Hello,
how do I achieve to display an event in the list of upcoming events after the cut-off date has expired?
The scenario is as follows:
1. The event takes place at a date x.
2. The registration date (cut-off date ) ends 30 days earlier than the event date x.
3. Then, after cut-off date, registration is no accepted, but I still want the event to be displayed in the list of up-coming events.

Or do I misunderstand the cut-off date, and there is another way to do what I expect?
