Multi-Language Support for Custom Fields

I'm not sure I understand how to use multi-language support on custom fields.

In order to have my Custom Fields have multi-language support, I think I need to create a new custom field for each language and then use the appropriate languages for the field titles?

So, for example for my field "Boat Name", I would have two database fields?

eb_boatname_en with the title "Boat Name" - the field set to English (UK)
eb_boatname_es with the title "Barco Nombre" - the field set to Spanish (ES)

I can't see how else I would do it. If I do it that way, what happens when I export registrants?

Well, I guess since I didn't hear anything on this, the only work-around that I can see is to write the field descriptions for the custom fields in both languages on the same line. It will look strange with the built-in fields changing language when the site changes language, but I don't see any other way to do it.
