Some Questions about Edocman was created by threcug
Hello,
the purpose of my site is to offer a private download zone for my customers and an access for my own documentation:
I have several dozens of files / documents for each customer, and 5-6 hundreds customers, each customer has access to his files only.
users will be in two main groups :
standard customer, accessing his and only his files
staff, accessing internal documentation with 3 hierarchical levels.
If I got it right from the presentation Edocman is perfect for my purpose?

some questions to clear my mind:
- can I host the files on a different server / media than the site
- can I index the files and route the customers through these index
- can I upload the files "all together" from the backend and assign them the access rights once loaded on the site or the storage server
(I tried briefcase factory, which is unsuitable because of the lack of this feature)

thanks for your attention.

Hi

Basically, the answer is Yes, EDocman can meet your requirement . The solution is :

1. Create two Joomla Groups, one for Customers and one for Staffs .

2. Create two top level categories, one for Customers and one for Staffs (You can setup it so that customers only see customers Category and Staffs can only see Staff categories).

3. When you want to create a document for a customer so that only this customer can see and download, you can simply enter ID of this customer into User ID field).

4. For documents which is assigned to staffs, you can simply set Access Level to Staff Group .

can I host the files on a different server / media than the site

=> No, the file need to be stored on the same server. If you store it in a different server, you will need to enter URL of the file when you create document.

can I index the files and route the customers through these index

=> I don't really understand this question. Could you explain more detail ?

- can I upload the files "all together" from the backend and assign them the access rights once loaded on the site or the storage server

=> The extension has Bulk Import feature which allows you to import all documents from a folder. I am not sure whether it meets your need or not.

Hello,

thanks for your answer,
the question is, does Edocman has the research features of an ECM (through the meta data, maybe)?

the last question that comes to me :

what file format can Edocman handle?
