Custom Phone Field

Custom Phone Field was created by Jonathan Fleischer
I am using a text field for "PHONE" and the Datatype validation PHONE. Is there a way to format the field so after a client types is 555 555-5555 it will format it to: (555) 555-5555?

Any advice would be helpful.
