Price Filter - Basic Search - Home Page

I am struggling to get the price filter to work on my home page. I am trying to use the 'dropdown select list with pre-defined options'.
Because we use a currency which can end up displaying huge numbers, I need to be able to show different price ranges for 'Rent' and 'Buy'.
I have set the Basic Search on the home page to display price filters. I have created some price lists for Rent and for Sale. In the search module, I set 'Select Property Type' to Any.
When I try to use the basic search, the price lists dont display for the property type I select. In fact I don't see see any prices at all.
Does the search use Ajax ? I note that the advanced search has tabs for buy and rent.
If the price list doesn't alter dynamically, is it possible to display a search with tabs for Buy and rent on the home page ?

Yes, in Search module, we don't use Ajax search to change the values of dropdown select list Price when user select specific Property type. In this case, you can use one Tab module, and assign 2 instances of Search module into 2 different tabs (For example: For Rent and For Sale). Then, in each instance of Search module, you can select corresponding Property type.
In that case, you will have one Tab module with 2 tab (For Rent and For Sale) with 2 corresponding dropdown select lists Price
