Hello.
I saw on the site that the latest version of osp realhomes is 3.0. My version is 1.0 but when i check for new updates from the extension manager on the back-end of my site the message "There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later." pops up. How can i update the template and the extensions?
Thanks..

Hi Vag,

You have to download the latest file using the "My Downloads" link at the top of the Joomdonation page and then upload the components manually.

One last thing just to be sure..
Installation folder -> 1. Modules 2. Plugin 3. Template..
Install all zip files inside those folders..right?

Thanks..

Hi Vag,

I updated from the template that had OSP 2.8.1 to the one with 2.8.2 in it, and had no issues or data loss.

I don't know what will happen in your case, as the versions are fairly far apart, so get ready with that backup, and some downtime to restore.

Also, any customisation you have done on backend code WILL be overwritten, unless you have confined all changes to the template override directory, and created a custom theme in com_osproperty.

Regards,

Marc

Let me get this straight..do you recommend making a copy of the template i have already customized?
Will this keep code that i have overwritten safe? How can i confine those changes in order to recall them?

Install the component zip file first, then the template.

Install any modules and plugins you are currently using, as well as any you want to use, but not all plugins and modules are needed for every site.

This is correct, changes to the default files in the template will be overwritten. To "keep" changes, copy all modified files to temporary locations, and then re-implement the changes line by line.

There is a way to override some of the files, especially the default component files, but as versions change, the overrides will end up either keeping your site behind in version changes, or worse, start conflicting with other parts of the site, depending on changes made to the overall code.

Create a custom Theme from the OSP admin panel to retain changes that are Theme related. The override directory for the template to change components and modules is "/templates/osprealhomes/html/*". However as I said above, this only keeps the changed files, but will not provide any new benefits to your site when you upgrade, and could have conflicts in future.
