Make custom fields required only on front end?

We have a lot of member data we have imported that is incomplete when it comes to some custom fields that we want to be required such as Date of Birth. We want new members to have to enter these fields, but we also want to be able to update data in the admin even if some of this data is missing. 

Is it possible to make these fields required only in the admin, or only by groups other than Super Users?

You can go to Membership Pro -> Configuration, set Validate Backend Subscription Form Data config option to No and it will work as you want
