Expected Membership Pro - PayPal Integration Behavior

Have a client who needed to change her payment card at renewal time. She paid last year (2024) for a recurring annual subscription through the PayPal (not Membership Pro) plugin. Because she was close the end of her annual subscription, I advised her to cancel her recurring subscription through her Member Profile, which was successfully accomplished.

She then subscribed to the same plan using the same PayPal plugin. At first she was asked to sign in to PayPal, rather than select the Pay By Card option which does not require signing in to PayPal. She went back to the Subscription page and tried again several times. Finally the payment page did not require logging in to PayPal and she paid with her new card.

She received three emails from PayPal confirming her new subscription.

However, Membership Pro did not update her membership to Active, not send her an invoice. I had to manually enter the payment data and set the subscription to Active.

Was this the expected behavior of the Membership Pro and PayPal payment integration. If not, what should have been done differently?

Also, her new renewal is non-recurring. How can it be changed to recurring?
