Membership Pro User Login Asks for Email & Password, not Username

Membership Pro User Login Asks for Email & Password, not Username was created by Al Khamsa, Inc.

Because my username is NOT my email address I ran into this problem subscribing to a plan.
I selected what I wanted to subscribe to and as an existing user I chose to login. I received an error when entering my email for my account and my password that it wasn't a valid combination. I knew right away what was wrong. Why doesn't Membership Pro ask for USERNAME and password like all the other apps that ask a user to login if they have an account? After the error was shown then the normal login appeared which asks for username.
Did I do something wrong with the installation of Memberhsip Pro?
