Migrating from Joomla 3 and Joomla 4 and changing servers? was created by John Willems
I am moving my subscription service from a shared hosting server to a new VPS server. At the same time I moving from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4. I have Joomla 4 and Membership Pro (current version) installed on the new server and they are working.
I now need to move my existing subscriptions/subscribers, etc. to the new server. What is the best method to do this? I tried a simple data migration of Joomla users but it did not recognize them as valid. Obviously I need to approach this process differently.
I will assume someone else has already been through this process, and I am hoping for some advice. It will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John W

Hi John
You should export database tables from your Joomla 3 website and import it into Joomla 4 website database, see membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/gettin...e-site-to-a-new-site
As this is Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 migration, I think to be safe, you should do step #2 in that documentation (to move Joomla users data from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4) in a different way :
- Make a copy of your current Joomla 3 website
- Update to Joomla 4 (so that any database schema changes to users database tables will be performed by Joomla)
- Export the tables listed on that step from that upgraded site, and import it to Joomla 4 site database
That should be safe and works

Tuan
Thanks for the information. I missed seeing it in the documentation. I will try a test move in the next couple of days. I am hopeful it will all work.
Once again a great support!

I will just make a quick post. My experience in migrating from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 has been a nightmare for me.
The subscriber data, the subscription plans, etc., for some reason did not port over cleanly. Something must be different and I missed it. I have been busy cleaning data and comparing to Stripe payment records.
I also found I had to first setup Membership Pro as much as possible. Then deal with subscribers. It was not quite as simple as pushing data from one table to another. It was probably me, but not a good experience.
I think have it right but I am sure I will be dealing with data issues for some time.

Hi John
Not sure what's the actual problem you are having but I would say export and import data from database tables from original site to the new site would be the right option
