Creating an account on the website without subscribing to a plan?

At the moment, the behavior is that when a person wants to create an account and click on the button to create one, it takes them to the subscription plans. After picking a subscription it allows them to create an account and so forth.

Is it possible that users can create accounts independent of the extension, and then they. are taken to the subscription plans as an option

Yes, of course. That's the default behavior. For this, you just need to go to Extensions -> Plugins, disable Membership Pro Registration Redirect plugin and it will work exactly as you want
