Can anybody recommend a free Joomla 3x template that is proven with the a front end subscription management page? Something has changed for me and the standard Protostar is not working correctly.

What's the problem with subscriptions management with protostar? You can try use a template from T3, T4 framework or a template from Helix framework, it should work well
