Change of membership was created by Bill
Hi Tuan,
For our site we have a special reduced membership fee for pensioners. I have set up a new class of membership called "Pensioner" and created a separate Plan for that membership. As with ordinary Members, Pensioners can have family members added to their group membership, but they can only have one family member unlike the Member class that can have four.
In addition I have a separate Plan of "Corporate" where the maximum number of group members is five and a much larger membership fee. That would be for companies, trusts and so on.
Now the problem arises when a Member gets old and wants to change his membership to "Pensioner". How best should I do that - I have simply been changing the "Plan" to "Pensioner" but that has produced problems with the group members which are not updated at the same time and when the membership is renewed those group members are shown as "unpublished" which is not correct. If I were to use the "Upgrade" facility and change the label to something like "Change Membership" would that work?
Regards,
Bill

Hi Tuan. I am afraid that isn't going to work as any change from "Member" to "Pensioner" will have to be done by admin just to check that the age of the member will have to be checked - we don't keep any dates of birth due to Privacy of Information.
So admin can always just change the Plan at the backend, but I think that that action won't change the Plan of any family members (i.e Group members). The only reason why I think that they would also have to change is that on renewal, the group members won't remain active if it is a different plan. Please let me know if I am right.
Is ithis important when the system updates the status on the payment of the renewal fee? If it isn't important, could I ask that any group members simply be changed to the Plan of the main member at that time, and their status updated accordingly?
Regards,
Bill
