membership card background image - how to get it right

Hi, I'm using photoshop to create a background image. I set the mm just like to what I select member card settings. I export the image in 72 dpi, in 300 dpi, but whatever I do, membership pro really blows up the image. So I have to make the image smaller and smaller to test to get to something I like, but by then I'm exporting them so small that yes, the size is okayish in the final card, but the image is such a small, blown up image that it's horribly pixelated.

How does this work as it's supposed to, what workflow should I follow. Did anyone get it to work correctly?

Maybe you can submit a support ticket sending us super admin account of your site so that we can check to see if we could help with that background image?
