Recurring Subscription Free Trial Coupon Interaction was created by Chris Nitsopoulos
Hi Tuan,

I am setting up a 12 month recurring subscription that has a 30 day free trial option, the free trial shouldn't apply to when the subscription is renewed and it seems that is indeed correct.

The issue is however that we have over 2400 people currently on non-recurring subscription, and when they go to renew it works as normal however we have a $5 coupon code available and if they enter in that code it restores the free trial option and then applies the coupon discount to all future recurring subscriptions.

Is there a way to disable the free trial option when using a coupon code? and is there a way for the coupon code to only apply to the first subscription payment instead of all future ones?

Hello Chris

Unfortunately, it's not possible. In that case, I guess you will have to create a new plan without free trial and ask your users to sign up for that plan

We don't have a way to ignore free trial when coupon code is used

Tuan

Thanks for your reply Tuan,

There may be a bug as I just did some tests.

If I set a coupon to apply to the first payment only AND have Free Trial enabled for a recurring subscription, the message presented to the user when entering the coupon is as follows:

"Free for the first 30 days
Then $38.50 for each 12 months"

If I disable free trial the message is as follows:

"$33.00 for the first 12 months
Then $38.50 for each 12 months"

Is it taking the free trial to be the first payment? It should be a free trial for 30 days and then $33 for 12 months and then $38.50 for each 12 months.

We can work around that by creating a new plan as you said I Guess, but the behaviour above seems a bit odd?

Honestly, the option apply to the first payment only was developed for plan without free trial only

For plan with free trial, it's hard to have it works like that and from all of the payment gateways, seems only PayPal supports that kind of scenario

So for now, please create a new plan as I said. This is something not easy to handle, so it won't be supported in near future

Tuan
