a 'spit' is a rod upon which savory food was roasted, turned in ancient times by a worker called a 'jack', a middle English word for an ordinary laborer (eg jack of all trades, steeplejack, lumberjack). Today, this job is usually referred to as a 'pitmaster'.

After a user updates their profile, there is no (noticeable) onscreen message confirming the submission (sometimes this is a renewal, but at the moment, it is usually a password reset). Ideally, we would like a modal window with a close button - but the standard Joomla notice would suffice. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi
There is a message (controlled by language item OSM_YOUR_PROFILE_UPDATED). Maybe it's not being shown because your site template doesn't have an option to show Joomla system message (a line like this github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/blob/stagin...ostar/index.php#L189 )
Maybe you should check your site template for that code?

MiniTek has a free plugin that creates nice system messages.

I don't use that plugin, so I don't know how it works. Membership Pro just uses Joomla core API for showing system message, so I don't know if it works with that plugin enabled. You can test this feature with a standard Joomla installation, it should work well
