Renewal start date too early was created by Bill Van Vlack
We have four subscription categories, 1 yr, 2yr, 3yr, and 4yr for a single 'product', i.e. membership to our organization. When a person subscribes to a 1yr category, receives a renewal notice, and decides to renew for two years, the program starts a new subscription with the pay date rather than the expiration date of the 1yr subscription, and therefore loses subscription time (time between pay date and expiration date of previous subscription).

I believe the program assumes that each subscription option is a different 'product', and a renewal can only be on an existing 'product'. When a 1 yr subscriber signs up for a 2 yr subscription, it's a different product. Signing up before the 1 yr product ends means that they have two products in force at once while they overlap.

We're really offering one product - Membership in our club - with varying terms.

How can I configure Membership Pro for varying subscription periods for a single membership?

Unfortunately, right now, we don't have a way to do that. So if someone subscribe for the 2yr plan, it will be treated as new subscription, not renewal

So a workaround at the moment is creating renew options for each plans to allow users to choose when they renew membership, see membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/basic-.../plans/renew-options

I tried that, but didn't keep it because...
1. When they renew, the records still show the original Plan. For example, if they originally signed up for a 1 year Plan, then extend that Plan for 2 years, the records still show that they have a 1 yr Plan. Most members don't renew until their current membership lapses or sign up for the same Plan they had last time, but once in a while a 1 yr Plan user signs up for a 2,3, or 4 year Plan before the 1 yr plan expires.

2. We offer memberships on a yearly basis and that option shows renewals in days only. Like most organizations, we don't charge extra for leap years (we're not selling software support subscriptions, we're using Membership pro to offeri membership in a club).

Hi Derrick

Unfortunately, in this case, we have no solution for this problem. I guess we can add support for it, but it will take time to implement (unsure about the time yet, estimate is about 6 to 8 weeks)

I believe I have a solution for this by using the 'Modify Subscription Duration' custom field. Unfortunately, the introductory directions for the Plan is no longer correct. I can modify the field title to make it close, but the cost sentence is incorrect. It reads....

"Please fill out the form below to process your membership to the Club at the 1, 2, 3, or 4 year level. The cost of the 1, 2, 3, or 4 year level is USD29.28"

How can I get access to the string for these directions so that I can modify it?

Go to Membership Pro -> Emails & Messages, you will see the message and can change it to meet your need
