Subscription import not working correctly was created by Chas Large
Hello,
I am having some difficulties with the subscription import feature.
I have the setting in the configuration "Only create user account when membership active/approved" set to YES. But when I import a list of subscribers and then activate them no Joomla account is created. If I include a username either manually generated or using the email address in the username field of the xlsx sheet, then the Joomla account is created anyway, irrespective of active status.
I assumed, that I could upload a list with the username field in the xlsx sheet empty and this would create a subscription record which it does but then I select the members I want to activate, click PUBLISH at the top of the subscriptions screen and they would be activated AND a Joomla account is only then created. All that happens is the subscription becomes active.
Attached is my test file. I regret I cannot at this time give access to the live site but I am working on a WAMP version on my PC, all other features work OK.
Am up to date with version 2.8.0 I cannot find a way to export my configuration for testing purposes.
Regards
Chas.

Hello Chas
1. The code to run import doesn't use the setting Only create user account when membership active/approved. So when you import, if data is correct, the account will be created immediately
2. Look at the data in the file, I don't see data for username. Maybe you can set data for username column, make it the same with email field, then import it again. Account should be created (with random password since no password provided)
BTW, we released version 2.8.1, so you should update to that latest version to your site
Regards,
Tuan

Dear Tuan,
Thank you for the quick reply. I assumed that the Configuration was a Global Setup so that it applied to both manual creation and import. For import it was even more important. I had set Use Email as username which is why username was blank in the file, but again, it did not create an account unless that field was filled in. With 300 members to import, changing the file for a username or copying the email column and pasting is unnecessary work. However, if that is the only way to automatically create the Joomla account with an import, then I will. Can you please make this clearer in the documentation.
Regards
Chas.

Hello Chas
Honestly, I don't have much experience with Excel (can say that I am not good at), but I think copy the whole email column, change the copied column to username should be an easy task. So you should not have to copy individual email...
For documentation, Yes, agree, it needs to be updated
