Month to Month Recurring PayPal

We've updated our website to Joomla and MembershipPro from another system. One of our users signed up via recurring month to month subscription with PayPal on the old site. When we add a membership subscription to that user, and enter the PayPal transaction ID, will the system pick up where it left off with PayPal, meaning do we need to cancel the PayPal subscription and have him subscribe again or is this not required?

What system you migrated to Membership Pro from?

Please let me know, I will then think about it to see whether there is a solution for this problem or subscribers will have to sign up to it again

We migrated from S2Member

Our current solution is this:

We created a new membership and assigned everyone to it, and set it to not renew automatically. This will allow them to signup again, but with a recurring membership.
