Article access level with {mprestriction ids="x"}

I want to restrict a section of an article such that only subscribers may view it. I plan to insert {mprestriction ids="x"} . . . {/mprestriction} around the restricted section.

Within Joomla's article editor, must I set Access = Registered for the article?

If so, will public (non-subscriber) users still be able to view the unrestricted parts of the article?

No, you can just set Access of the article to Public so public users can see the unrestricted parts of the article
