Registered without paying question

I just discovered the hard way someone who fills out the form but cancels at the paypal end still gets a joomla registration and activation email, as well as a pending member on the list.

I was considering trying it. Would that solve my registration issue for joomla as well as pending member? Or would that need something else?

Also I can't find the setting at all. Perhaps its in the later version? Current version is 1.6.4 and I know there are missed updates. Do I need to update to get it?

1. Yes. That will solve your registration issue. For pending members issue, the record will still being created (before users are redirected to payment gateway for processing payment). However, you can publish the plugin "System OS Membership Cleaner" and these ignore payment records will be deleted automatically after sometime (5 hours)

2. The option Only create user account when membership active/approved was just added recently (I don't remember exactly when it was added), So if you use version 1.6.4, that's very old version and you will need to update to latest version to use this feature
