Subscription cancellation was created by Dan Danch
Hi All --

I have a question about what happens when someone cancels a subscription. So using PayPal standard I am already aware that the user must cancel through their individual PayPal account. So on that... when the user does cancel through PayPal, what exactly happens on the Joomla side/Membership Pro side? Does PayPal notify Membership Pro of the cancellation and the user is automatically cancelled? More specifically, I have almost all of my users on recurring monthly plans, does the plan just expire after the current month and their access is cut-off automatically?

Thanks!

Hi

When users cancel through PayPal, PayPal won't charge them anymore, therefore, their subscriptions won't be renewed and they will be expired at the end of the current subscription. It won't be expired immediately

Is it possible for users to cancel their subscription through their subscription profile page?

They can only do that if they signed up using one of the payment plugin which support this option :

1. PayPal Pro

2. Authorize.net

3. Stripe

So what I really want to do is to create a special hidden menu that would enable subscribers to cancel their subscription. I know it is possible to enable the "Cancel" button on the subscription page, but I don't want to enable this for everyone:
  • If someone wants to cancel their subscription, they will send me an e-mail request to cancel
  • I will e-mail them back a link to this hidden menu so they can cancel their subscription

No worries; I found a way to do this using template overrides. I edited the profile display "default.php" file and added logic to check for a specific menu item before displaying the cancel button.
