Managing Subscriptions As An Administrator

Has anyone worked out how best to perform the equivalent of a Subscription Upgrade from Plan A to Plan B in the admin screens.

Is it simply a matter of adding a New Subscription for the replacement plan and manually amending the price?

Is there a better way?

I assume a renewal is the same process without a change in price unless I just want to extend the date on the existing subscription.
