Hi,

I am just starting with Membership Pro and I would like to know if I can do the following:
  1. I have clients that I'd like to create subscription for so I can get the reminder emails to generate.
  2. Then they would receive the email, their first time using the system, log in and enter in their credit card info for the recurring function and pay the first bill.
  3. The following renewals would then be recurring so automatically paid.

Thanks,
Helen

I am thinking that I need to do this but I am not sure. Please confirm:
  1. Create the subscription plan and make it 'renewable' and not 'recurring'.
  2. Create the subscriptions for each client either manually or through import.
  3. The subscribers will first be notified with email to renew and the clients must renew manually.
  4. Then change each subscription plan to recurring.
But will changing it afterwards to 'recurring' work for the pre-existing subscriptions?

Hi Helen

Unfortunately, it is not possible to do that. Change a subscription plan to recurring won't make existing subscriptions become recurring

Hi Tuan,

So If I set up an existing client manually with an auto-renew membership, what happens when the membership comes due? Will it fail with no warning? I could not find any email that sends out for recurring subscriptions, to say something like,

"This message is not an invoice but a friendly reminder to let you know that your next billing with xxxx will fall due on: mm/dd/yyyy for: $ xx.xx

The above charge will be processed to the credit card you have listed on file with us on or after the above date but not before. Once this charge has been processed we will of course issue you with an invoice and invoice receipt. To ensure this charge goes through without any problems please check -

1) Sufficient Funds - You have sufficient funds available on your credit card to accept the above charge.

2) Card Expiration / Card Cancellation - The credit card you have listed on file with us is valid and has not expired or been cancelled.

3) Card Issuer Aware - Your card issuer is aware that charges from xxxxx are legitimate so as to ensure they do not block them as being potentially fraudulent. All charges from xxxx will show as being billed by "xxxxxxx" on your credit card statement."

Or something like that. :)
Anyway, I am just trying to figure out the logistics.

Thanks,
Helen

OK, it looks like even though an auto-renewing subscription "Enable Renewal" is set to "No", the reminder emails will still work? Please confirm.

Second, in order to get this to work with pre-existing subscriptions tell me if this will work:
  1. Set up Recurring Subscription plan with appropriate credit card gateway (Plan A)
  2. Set up Non-Recurring Subscription plan to correspond with 'Plan A' with "Enable Renewal" to "Yes" and payment gateway to offline (Plan B ). Offer upgrade option to the 'Plan A'.
  3. Import existing client to 'Plan B'.
  4. Unpublish offline payment gateway.
  5. Client will then be notified when subscription renewal is due and instructions to upgrade in order to renew.
