Membership ID not working as expected

Hello,
I have the check box set for membership Generate Membership ID with ID as the prefix. Still my users are all 0 in the id field. Is there something i am doing wrong? also once I get it set can I send it to the user in a automated email? if so how.

Could you please check and make sure the plugin "OS Membership - Membership ID plugin" is published ? After that, it should work well
