Plan expiry only date

Is it possible to have a plan set so that it ONLY has an expiration date not a subscription length.

My club operates on an annual membership basis. I have just updated the plans for the new membership year and the first 3 joiners still have the old expiry date.
Would it just be setting the subscription length to be after the expiry date?

I was on version 2.03 and have just upgraded to 2.08 and will see what happens when the next member tries to join / renew.

I have now had 3 new members join with the wrong subscription end date (i have manually modified these to the correct date)
the plan last year had an end date of 2016-01-31. I had modified the plan to have an end date of 2017-01-31.
I have attached a screen shot of the plan date.

I have had a member on a different plan renew their membership and this correctly shows the end date of 2017-01-31.
