Some memberships not creating user accounts

But some are!
I want to make sure that everyone buying a subscription either creates an account, or uses one they already have.
What settings do I need to ensure this?

Go to Membership Pro -> Configuration:

1. Set "Registration Integration" config option to Yes

2. Set "Show login box on subscription page" config option to Yes

After that, it will work as expected

Ok, monitored and now questioning.
If the user already has an account, should they be able to log in with that with this strategy?
I've just had a user renew their subscription and now there's a new account for them. I'm not sure if they did that knowingly or not.

So he registered for a new account ? That's strange as he should login on the form before continue the subscription renewal. Maybe he registered for an account manually via Joomla ? If so, I think you can go to Extensions -> Plugins Manager, find and publish the "OS Membership Registration Redirect" plugin

When you do that, if users attemp to register via Joomla, they will be redirected to Membership Pro page and it should prevent the issue happens

I don't think she went to the Joomla login, there's a register part of the OSMembership susbcription page, I don't want to ask them to go to another page to register. I'm just checking with her.

I've had trouble trying to style this page to make it clearer, text and fields don't fall neatly into relevant sections. For example the text "New User? Please Register" is at the bottom of the login form, not the top of the register form.

I did look at overriding it, but the thousand line template file put me off :ohmy:

If you want to customize the layout of subscription form, try to look at components/com_osmembership/views/register/tmpl/default.php and customize it to meet your need
