is there anyway to set the membership to auto approve instead of administrator approval?

Send Activation Email...
my settings are correct but the system does not send the activation email?
can you help? my version is 1.5.5, Joomla 2.5.1

1. The subscribers should be approved automatically after he completed payment for his subscription. What payment method you are using ? Please let me know !

2. For sending emails, could you please submit a support ticket sending us admin and FTP account of your site so that I can check it for you

BTW, 2.5.1 is an old version of Joomla. I think you should upgrade to 2.5.13
