Upgraded memberships still show on expired lists - possible solution?

After many years using Membership Pro I still have a problem whenever a member varies or 'upgrades' to a different membership plan.

The system marks their old plan as 'expired' and the new plan as 'active' (since we allow only one plan per person ie 'unique plans').
This means that any export or listing of expired members will list them as expired, when in fact they have upgraded. 

They used to receive reminder notices that their membership has expired, but I think this problem was resolved  quite a while ago.

However, there is still a few unresolved problems.

For example, if we create a 'Members List' menu item to display a list all expired members, those that have upgraded to a new plan are also included in the expired list.
  
Tuan, have you considered any solutions for this?

Would this work...
1. Create a new Subscription status (eg 'upgraded') as an alternative to the current opotions (active, expired etc)
2. Add a new configuration option that allows us to assign all subscription upgrades to 'upgraded' status instead of 'expired' ?
3. Set the default option as "expired' so as not to interrupt any previous setups?

Then if we export all expired memberships, it would no longer show upgraded memberships.

Would this solve the problem...??
