Article-included button broken, donate module OK

Having an issue where an article that pulls in a jdform tag shows up fine but the Next button does nothing - no form validation, submission, etc. There is a sidebar module in use elsewhere as well, but if you select an amount and click donate, you get taken to the same form (but not embedded in an article) and it works just fine. There seems to be something about including it in an article that is making it fail. What am I missing? The page source for the article with the embedded form contains the onclick="checkData();"> line on the button tag, If I use chrome to change the onclick behavior to alert('hi') i get the alert, so the scripting seems intact and enabled.

I am currently running Joomla 3.2.3 with no other 3rd-party content plugins running.
