What do these date boxes do? 

On the Event page, they are below "enable cancel registration" and are date fields, but I can't find anything in the documentation about them.

Hi Melissa

It works the same with Joomla core :

1. Publish Up: If setup, the event will only be displayed from that date

2. Publish Down: If setup, the event won't be displayed after that date
