We're using a menu item of the “Calendar - Monthly Layout” type. When we view a future month in the front end, edit an event, and save & close it, the calendar always jumps back to the current month. How can we prevent this?

That would require small override. Please get this attached zip file, unzip it, upload the received file to components/com_eventbooking/model/override folder, then try again. It should work as you want
