SOLVED - Difficulty setting up Parent/Child event structure was created by Bas van Kollenburg
Hello,I am currently trying to reorganize my event structure in Events Booking.
My goal is to create a hierarchy where I have "Parent" events (general course information) and "Child" events (specific dates) to display them in a Grid layout on my homepage.
My desired workflow:

Thanks in advance!
My goal is to create a hierarchy where I have "Parent" events (general course information) and "Child" events (specific dates) to display them in a Grid layout on my homepage.
My desired workflow:
- Create a Parent event (General course info, no date).
- Create Child events (Specific dates) and link them to the Parent.
- Use the "Category Layout" to show these groups in a clean grid.
- I have checked the Configuration settings, but I am struggling to find the correct setup to enable the Parent/Child selection field.
- I have ensured that "Recurring Events" is set to "No", but the "Parent Event" field still doesn't appear.
- What is the exact configuration setting to enable the "Parent Event" dropdown menu for individual events?
- Is there a conflict between "Additional Dates" and the "Parent/Child" functionality? Should I disable one to use the other?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bas
There is no event dropdown to allow choosing parent event as you want. Instead :
- The event you are adding on main screen will become parent event
- The events added in Additional Dates tab (which additional date is a new child event) will be children events of the main event
Hope it is clear to you
Regards,
Tuan

Hy,
Hi Tuan,
Okay I have now made a test menu www.soterios.nl/overzicht-cursussen-2/
Below that 3 categories of courses, if you now choose Child & Childcare (IKK Act) you will get this page:
www.soterios.nl/overzicht-cursussen-2/ki...inderopvang-wet-ikk/
So how do I get a list of dates to choose from?
Gr Bas

Hi Bas
Please go to Events Booking -> Configuration, look at General tab, set Show Children Events In Parent Event Detail Page
config option to Yes
Also, edit the menu item you created, set Hide Children Events parameter to Yes
After that, check the result. It should work as you want

Hi Tuan,
It looks better, thanks
The main course only serves as the head and data, it is not a real course.
The children are the courses
www.soterios.nl/overzicht-cursussen-2/ki...inderopvang-wet-ikk/
Can I remove those 2 columns somewhere so that people only see the button with "choose date and location"
www.soterios.nl/overzicht-cursussen-2/ki...n-online-klassikaal/
And it is now breaking the template on the right, perhaps fixable by removing the category column.

Go to Events Booking -> Configuration, look at Themes tab, set the following config options to No:
- Show Category In Table Layout
For Event Date, there is no option to hide it. So you will need to remove edit code of the file components/com_eventbooking/themes/default/common/events_table_layout.php if you want to remove the column
If you do that, you need to move the modified file to template override templates/template_name/html/com_eventbooking/common folder so that the change won't be lost when you update to future releases of the extension. template_name is name of template which you are using on your site

Great, that works for the category.
So the main course needs to remain to show the children's courses. Only the date of the main course doesn't change.
Do you have any other ideas what I could enter as the date?
Regards, Bas

I don't understand your last question/requirement. Maybe for the main course, you can use this kind of date
docs.joomdonation.com/eventsbooking/faqs...ithout-specific-date
?
